Golden Harvest Food Pantry

Internationally recognized in a MegaCities ShortDocs video "The New Face of Hunger" selected as a New York City finalist produced by Ms. Chante D. Graham. View it here.     NEBHDCo’s Golden Harvest Food Pantry is located at 376 Throop Avenue, between Lafayette Avenue and Kosciuszko Street.  A New York City Emergency Feeding partner agency since 1993, in June of 2014 we opened our beautiful new supermarket-style client choice pantry facility. With a ground level shopping floor, the pantry also has a second floor demonstration kitchen, classroom and three-station benefits center. Within six months of opening the new pantry, we more than doubled the number of families served. We continue to register new families at a rate of 20-30 per pantry shift – serving a still growing need.

On the Pantry Shopping Floor:

  • Clients choose their own food, supermarket-style.
  • Shopping is by family size 1-6, once per month.
  • Greater selection of healthy products.
  • More fresh fruits and vegetables, including  from NEBHDCo gardens and local farms.
  • More refrigerated and frozen products, available from reach-in units.
  • Walk-in refrigerator and freezer for expanded perishables storage.

At the Demonstration Kitchen/Classroom and Benefits Center:

  • Cooking demonstrations, classes, and community events
  • Support services and referrals
    • NEBHDCo is a member of the North Brooklyn Network of the Food Bank for New York City’s  Tiered Engagement Network (TEN) Program, a referral partnership of more than 25 local agencies
    • Through TEN, we provide referrals to local service providers covering a wide range of needs. Referral supports include: SNAP, legal services, health insurance, health and dental care, housing services, veterans services, free tax preparation, and workforce. We also provide onsite services for free tax preparation and ACCESS NYC benefits screening and applications, including SNAP registration and re-certification.
